Comprises 1 autograph letter from Isaac Watts to an unnamed clergyman dated 15 March 1725/6 with an extended postscript dated 16 March, concerning certain criticisms by the addressee of various features of Watts's hymns with a full defence by Watts; also, 4 portraits of Watts retained in the bound volume, including 2 identical portraits printed from a picture by Gainsborough in Dr. Williams's Library and published in London on 1 May 1822 by W. Walker, the first being without a full caption, a third portrait printed by William Baynes and Son, London, in January 1826 from an engraving on steel by J. Shury, and a fourth bearing only his name 'Isaac Watts, D.D.' as a caption.
